
I worked in high tech in the late 1970s/early 80s. Because I had studied genetics as a child, I married what I knew to tech.

The picture is a microscopic circuit from about forty years ago. See those things that look like pathways? Electrons flow through them. [This is a fairly simple circuit.]
Let’s call the pathways hardware. The hardware directs the software [so to speak] or what you would call the program. [And this is quite a simple explanation.]

I was a hardware person and I would loudly say,
‘YOU CAN’T RUN YOUR SOFTWARE WITHOUT MY HARDWARE.”
Because if you don’t have the proper hardware, the software can’t run.

Let’s call biological pathways chromosomes. You know—the pathways those little electrons run around in? We’ll call how the electrons are arranged a program. The chromosome must be changed to change the program.
